Manucho scores another goal for his country

Manucho was once more on the score sheet when his country Angola was beaten by Egypt with 2 goals to 1 in the quarter-finals in the African Cup of Nations. The goal means that Manucho scored in all games except for the goalless draw against Tunisia. This will hopefully give the soon-to-be Red Devil increased self confidence for his European adventure which is soon to be started in Greece…

Panathinaikos next destination for Manucho

According to Sky Sports Manucho is set to travel to Athens after the African Cup of Nations for a loan spell at Panathinaikos for the reminder of the season. Manucho seems to have admitted that this move will be made before a hopefully successful time at Man Utd.

I don’t know if I am glad to hear about this or not. For sure it will be a great experience and it will make him more prepared before playing for United. However with Saha constantly being injured I feel a bit concerned about how United’s game would be affected would Tevez or Rooney be injured. Yes, there are attacking options like playing Ronaldo as a striker but I would be nice to have a high quality striker on the bench if the team would need some attacking injection during a difficult game. I do think that a player like Saha does provide quality attacking options… it’s just that he’s never available to play.

Danny Welbeck on course

The 17 year old striker Danny Welbeck has been given the no. 47 and is now included in the first team. Sir Alex has said that the Manchester born striker might get involved in the action this season and perhaps this will be the case as Ferguson also has said that Manucho probably won’t be playing this season and we all know about Saha’s fitness worries.

Danny was given his first piece of first-team action in the friendly game in Saudi Arabia last week and did really well and almost got on the scoresheet. The Reds were down by one goal to Al Hilal and the game was heading towards its end when Welbeck was brought down in the penalty area and was given the opportunity to score from the penalty spot. However his penalty was slightly miss-fired and the ball went over the crossbar. I don’t think he will bother too much about this though, instead this will give him great experience for the future.

Manucho’s work permit

While Man Utd still is waiting for a work permit for the Angolian striker Manucho, he is performing really well for his country in the African Cup of Nations. After his two goals against Senegal he has now scored three goals in the tournament and his country now has a good chance of making it into the quarter-finals. Alex Ferguson thinks that the striker’s performance in the cup will improve his chances of getting a work permit although the chances of playing for United this season seem to be small.

From what I’ve seen of him in the tournament I think he could be a good addition to the United squad but it might be a good thing to place him at another European team for the rest of the season – something that seems to be Ferguson’s plan. At the moment the strikers are performing really well although I would like to see more of Saha to be sure that he would cope of replacing Rooney or Tevez if anyone of them would need a rest or get injured.
